The Position

The Marketing and Communications Professional is a newly created position in response to the growth of the firm as well as the importance placed on the corporate Brand and the associated need for excellence in flawless, targeted, best-in-class marketing and communications.  The successful candidate will essentially be a one person department who will lead and manage the Firm’s communications and marketing efforts as it pertains to employees, clients and other external constituents. We are looking for someone who will not only maintain ‘status quo’ but who will also pro-actively identify ways for Gluskin Sheff to communicate and interact with the external world, most importantly clients, in a way that is both innovative and pre-eminent.

The primary emphasis of this role will be on supporting the Risk Management & Client Service team’s marketing efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Overall

Maintain the Firm’s annual communication schedule as it pertains to all communication and act as a key coordinator including budget oversight

Prepare, co-ordinate and take a leadership role in all external communications including client letters, reporting pieces (announcements/musings, etc.), corporate press releases, quarterly conference call program, video webcasts, AGM speeches and presentations, analyst and client conference call scripts, corporate presentations, etc.

Ensure all materials are on strategy and executed on budget and in a timely manner

Be the expert of Gluskin Sheff’s BRAND and ensure compliance of all material leaving the Firm. This requires working closely with Compliance to understand all marketing limitations/restrictions especially for material targeted for outside of Canada

Own the Gluskin Sheff website – external and internal, including leading a re-vamp in 2010

Manage and coordinate Gluskin Sheff’s participation in conferences and presentations

May involve managing media enquiries and actively seeking appropriate media opportunities for Gluskin Sheff

Writing, Reporting and Administration

Responsible for the writing and editing of all client communications including monthly and quarterly letters and announcements

Co-ordinate the gathering, editing and formatting of the quarterly marketing package and edit and post to the Gluskin Sheff website, as appropriate

Prepare speeches and presentation as required for the Firm’s AGM and other events

Working with the Risk Management/Client Services team, draft initial letters/communications to clients, prospects or contacts as required

Be the ‘custodian’ of:

the Gluskin Sheff “Investor Presentation” template to be used when meeting with or presenting to potential public investors

the Request for Proposal response documentation

a library of all communication assets

all events, conferences and other occasions that Gluskin Sheff are in the public

Gluskin Sheff’s donation activity

coordinate guests for Gluskin Sheff-sponsored events

Skill requirements

Directly related experience in the sound application of superior brand building, marketing and communications strategies and programs

Respected writer and known for having the ability to translate people’s thoughts/ideas into compelling, highly readable, on- brand copy

A great design aesthetic

Fluid management of multiple, diverse, ever-changing and competing priorities.

Polished style that connects well with an affluent/high-end customer

Well developed negotiation, interpersonal and public relations skills to interface with colleagues, stakeholders and external organizations

Highly developed organizational skills

Well developed knowledge of the internet and information systems

Demonstrated communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills

Acute comprehension and application of confidentiality and diplomacy

Education and Experience Requirements

Marketing & Communications professional with a minimum of seven years of financial services experience

Undergraduate degree in journalism, marketing or communications
